BEAUTY // Re-invent the Red Lip
|
Refinery29 has posted an awesome we article demonstrating a few different ways to re-invent your staple red lippy. With the multitude of Xmas parties happening at the moment, what better time to try something different? “A red lip done with two complementary shades makes for a high-impact pout that’s a surefire conversation starter. The trick to this look is picking two shades that are similar and have the same undertones, like a cool-toned red and a bright fuchsia. Swipe the darker color on your lower lip and the brighter hue on your top lip. To keep the colors from bleeding into each other, dust a bit of transparent powder on top, to finish.”
“To get this sexy shimmery pout, makeup maven Pat McGrath first lined lips with a deep red liner, then filled in the lip with a cherry red lipstick. Using her finger, she dabbed some loose red glitter directly into the center of the lips, blotting it outwards. Two coats of a thick, jelly gloss on top sealed the glitter in place and added shine.”
“A low-maintenance, super-sexy way to wear a red lip is a stain that makes it look like you’ve just spent a lot of time locking lips. To get the look, makeup artist Ellis Faas suggests applying a wine-colored lipstick directly to the center of the lip and fading it out with your fingertips. “The result is a very natural, sensuous lip that looks like you have just been kissing. It is also a great way to wear lipstick, for a woman who might not be used to, or like, the feeling of product on her lips,” says Faas.”
“To get this cool gradient effect, McGrath lined and filled in lips with a deep red lip pencil, used a brush to dab a deep burgundy lipstick on the entire lip, then tapped a rich, true-red lipstick on to the very center of the lips. A coat of gloss finished off the look and helped blend the colors into each other for a seamlessly blended look.”
